Strange Symbol/Icon on Desktop
A strange symbol (icon-like) appeared on the left side of my screen and stays on top of any window open. It moved up and down the screen. H E L P me remove this, please. What the heck is it? It's a square box black and gray with some sort of character in the middle with a "X" through it. I have a Print Screen shot of this I can share.

A screen shot would certain help. It could be a number of things. If a reboot doesn't clear it up (possibly video driver glitch), it could be some app that you may have that is installed on the machine that overlays notes, e.g. like post it notes or something else. Let us know, glad to troubleshoot with you.

Problem Solved!
Well, Dummy me, I finally figured it out. I'm using a 32" LCD TV as my monitor, and although I don't use the remote control for it, I noticed that sound was "muted". I clicked it ON and Voila, that Floating Icon is gone!

LOL!! That's actually hilarious. I confess not having heard of that problem before while using Windows Vista or Windows any version. Thanks for letting us know! It's funny how these days monitors and televisions are almost synonymous and it's just about practical size and how big your desk or stand space is! Glad you figured it out!
