The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has successfully been turned on and tested. Bring on the Higgs Boson!

Can it cure cancer? End war, famine, poverty?

Maybe not directly but certainly in-directly in the form of new technologies developed from breakthroughs in physics at LHC.

I certainly hope so. Otherwise i'm not really impressed, but I guess we shall see what we shall see. I won't write it off as a gross waste of money just yet.

I've changed my mind. What a phenomenal waste of money! There are so many better things that this money could have been used for. Poverty, disease, the environment, the list is endless.
We as humans need to get our priorities right.

As of now it's in sick bay again for several months due to further magnet troubles, which have dogged the experiment since the start.
I like the way they admit the full experiment could cause a tiny black hole, which could expand exponentially to swallow the entire planet in seconds, but they can't really assess the risk because they 'think' it's highly unlikely. A bit like the Titanic being sunk I suppose.......and if it does ? Well there won't be anyone to complain that's for sure. Resonance cascade anyone?

Apparently it's now all fixed up, read on....Collider fixed
Just hope the very remote possibility of it creating an ever growing black hole, is as they say very unlikely.......you know a bit like the possibilty of the Titanic sinking and other wide of the mark scientific theories. Still every cloud as they say, if it does happen the hole will grow exponentially and will engulf our planet so fast, like fractions of milliseconds, they wont even be able to sound the alarm..........reassuring.

It should be dismantled. Simple as that.
