Default Cannot read SD memory card

I cannot get my laptop computer running Vista Ultimate to read my SD memory card. Device manager shows a yellow ! for DISK DRIVES | SD MEMORY CARD and when I try to update the driver it fails. Here is what windows includes in the error report:

Description:
Windows was able to successfully install device driver software, but the driver software encountered a problem when it tried to run. The problem code is 10.

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Users\J. Jay Forbes\AppData\Local\Temp\DMI8DFD.tmp.log.xml
C:\Windows\inf\oem42.inf

Microsoft's support site has a hot fix for SD cards, but it doesn't fix the problem I'm having.
I have also tried deleting an INF file (recommended by another help forum), but that didn't help either.
Any ideas?
