Default activision games not working

I've tried installing Call of Duty 2 and Quake 4, but they both come up with an error saying "this program has compatability problems.." i click check for solutions online and it tells me to contact activision, which i do not want to do, and when i click "run the program", it says "Access is denied"!!
how can i solve this problem??

Right-click on the shortcut. Go to properties and select compatibility mode for windows XP.
Also make sure you're running the games as administrator.

There is something wrong there, neither of those games are incompatible with Vista and don't need compat. mode to run, I have both installed and didn't have a problem installing, however just to be sure I have removed and then installed again..........nope! not a sausage of a complaint from Vista.
And finally neither are listed as being fussy about the system by either MS or their producers, I have no idea why you would get such messages, to date there are only a very few games that do that.

Curious comment, if they say contact Activision which would surely solve any problem, why would you not want to contact them ?

I have Call of Duty 2 installed also. And I did have compatability problems. It didn't work until I ran in compatability mode.

Aha, must be the way you hold your mouth or maybe my configuration is a bit tweaked.
Seriously I have had a quick look and it seems that there are indeed issues with COD 2, which as you say are sorted out by compatibility mode.
However I still fail to understand the 'access denied' message other than running in a limited account (non-admin).

Still don't need it for my COD2 though ..........scratches head, gets splinters and wanders off to find kettle.

Well, the 'access denied' is something I haven't had. UAC related possibly.

Not many people play COD2 anymore. Well, not here (AUS) they don't. I'd have ot say that COD 2 is far better than the latest installment of Call of Duty.
