Default No cam in Windows Live Messenger

WE ARE UNABLE TO RUN AUDIO AND VIDEO SET UP. This message keeps coming up when I try to set up the web cam in windows live messenger. It used to work. I am also told that the cam is in use with another program but I cannot find out how to check which program. Help please.

try disconnecting all peripherals from the computer, then close all apps, open task manager and close program processes one by one until you can use the webcam with live messenger.

If that doesnt help, an app called 'process explorer' will answer what software is hooked into the web cam
