Default disabling 'submit' button once pressed.

Is this even possible?

I have a paypal pro account and will be processing orders using paypals API from my website. Right now, when you press the submit button on my website, it processes the payment in the background and a message displays saying."processing please wait."

The submit order button is still on this page and so I am wondering if theres a way to disable the button once its been pressed. This will ensure that no duplicates are processed.
