Default Presentation Mode problems

Hi. I'm posting for a friend, who's having serious issues with his presentation mode. At random times, it'll activate on its own, then continually shift from normal mode to presentation mode and back again every two or three seconds. He can't remove presentation mode from the computer (at least that we know of) without removing the entire OS.

Is this a virus, or something else?

All help is appreciated.

It sounds like a something else really, Does he have a projector plugged in either permenantly or otherwise and does he make presentations with Power Point often.
Thing is when whatever you used presentation mode for, projector\power point etc; quitting the program should immediately put you back to normal desktop settings, so in my mind the two things to look at first, are the graphics drivers which may have been updated recently to stop such problems, and the settings\config of the apps using that mode in the first place.
one thing is certain, it's not normal.

No, he's never used presentation mode before, he's never plugged it in to a projector, and he never makes presentations with Power Point.

Basically, he'll be sitting there playing a video game or what have you, and Presentation Mode will start itself, then quit itself, and go into a start/cancel loop that forces him to turn the computer off to stop.
