Unhappy Security Status

Yesterday I uninstalled Kaspersky Internet Security and installed AVG 7.5

I have just discovered that the computer's security status, states that "Windows Firewall and Kaspersky Internet Security both report that they are turned on".

In addition, under Malware protection, it is stated that AVG 7.5 and Kaspersky Internet Security are on.

How is this possible since I have uninstalled Kaspersky and manually deleted a file that was left behind from the uninstall process?

Any ideas please on how rectify this problem?

Open Msconfig and look under the Startup tab. delete any reference to Kaspersky and restart.

Not ignorance, it isn't that obvious!
just type Msconfig in the Start and, when the window opens, clcik the Startup Tab and see what is listed with a ticked square.

Thank you davehc. Unfortunately, there is no reference to Kaspersky on the Startup Tab or indeed on any of the other tabs......

Ok. This is probably like many anti virus program Uninstall, at a guess. As you indicate not a degree level in computers (lol), I would suggest this. What has happened is that you did not close down the internet monitoring before the uninsstall so:
Reinstall kaspersky.
Reboot. Now, over somewhere on the right of the taskbar, I think you will see an icon of some sort, which relates to Kaspersky. Right click this and then click exit. Now select the Kaspersky uninstall from the Start menu item. after this I think it will have all gone away.
Other than that, if it fails, you may need some guidance as to how to remove it entirely from the Registry - a little more tricky but I may be able to guide you through it.

Hi davehc,

Problem resolved....
Your guess was correct. When I uninstalled Kaspersky, I just exited the program prior to uninstall, without first individually shutting down the firewall, anti-malware, and then uninstall.
After reinstalling and shutting it down properly, I uninstalled it again, and this time it has gone away fully.

The reporting is now correct....

You are absolutely right...I don't have a "degree" in computing and I was dreading the possibility of having to go to the registry, if this remedial action did not work. I have been into the registry a couple of times in the past, but I don't "enjoy" the experience, as one wrong more can mess the system up.

Thank you very much for your help....

I have just gone into "regedit"...(very carefully... ), and under "SOFTWARE", there is an entry for KasperskyLab , with the following data:

Name Type Data
(Default) REG_SZ (value not set)
CustomerID REG_SZ 0065431704
CustomerPassw.. REG_BINARY 19 e9 c0 dd cc fe e2 d1 a1

Could I delete this entry without messing up my registry please?

If you download CCleaner and run it...it should delete any redundant registry files.
I don't recommend deleting stuff from the registry.

CCleaner is already part of my "armoury". Both the registry part and the general cleaner, do not remove this entry.....
